"Goodnight, Irene" and "You Are My Sunshine" are 2 of the world's most-recorded songs. Both tunes were developed as their authors, Leadbelly and Jimmie Davis, lived and performed in Shreveport. Our music mensch tells tales about those fellows, plus the story of James Burton and "Suzie Q," of "Good Rockin' at Midnight" and Sam Cooke's hit, "A Change is Gonna Come." At the Municipal Auditorium the Louisiana Hayride country music variety show, featuring Hank Williams and Elvis Presley, comes alive. Blues, jazz, vaudeville, soul music, rock and classical music each have a role in Shreveport's musical story.
